How Ceramic Works
The three classes of window film
Window film comes in classes, and the class decides how the tint performs and how it ages.
Dyed film
Dyed film is the budget option. A layer of dye darkens the glass and adds privacy, but it does little about heat, and sunlight slowly breaks the dye down. Old tint that has turned purple and bubbly is usually dyed film at the end of its life.
Carbon film
Carbon film is a step up. Carbon particles replace the dye, so the color holds and heat performance improves. It's a solid mid-range film.
Ceramic film
Ceramic film uses nano ceramic particles to reject infrared heat, the part of sunlight you feel as warmth. There's no dye to break down and no metal layer to interfere with your electronics, which makes it the strongest performer of the three.
The film EHCO installs

Every shade in the LUNARAY line is listed at 99% UV rejection, and STEK says the family carries the Skin Cancer Foundation Seal of Recommendation. Day one

The shade options

Those are STEK's shade names, not the final darkness on your vehicle: what a window actually measures depends on the film and the existing glass together. New Vehicles
The best time to tint is right off the lot.
A new vehicle is the easiest install: clean factory glass, no old film to strip, and an interior that hasn't spent a summer in the sun. Film bonds to new glass the way it should, and the UV protection starts working from day one.

Common ceramic tint questions
Is ceramic tint worth the extra cost?
If you plan to keep the vehicle more than a couple of years, usually yes. You're paying for heat rejection that doesn't depend on darkness, color that doesn't shift, and film built to hold up. Spread over the years you own the vehicle, the price gap between ceramic and bargain film is small, and you skip the cost of stripping and replacing failed tint later.
What's the difference between ceramic, carbon and dyed tint?
Dyed film darkens glass with a layer of dye. It's inexpensive and adds privacy, but it does little for heat and the dye eventually breaks down. Carbon film uses carbon particles instead, so the color holds and heat rejection improves. Ceramic film uses nano ceramic particles that reject infrared heat directly, making it the strongest performer of the three, with no dye to fade and no metal in the film.
What brand of film does EHCO install?

Does tint have to be dark to block heat?
No. With dyed film, darkness was most of what you were paying for, so going darker was the only way to get more out of it. Ceramic works differently: the particles in the film reject infrared heat on their own, so a lighter, fully legal shade of ceramic can keep a cabin cooler than a much darker dyed film.
Will ceramic tint interfere with my phone, GPS or radio?
No. That reputation comes from older metallized films, which used a reflective metal layer that could weaken reception. Ceramic film is non-metallic, so there's nothing in it to interfere with phone, GPS or radio signals.
Will it fade or turn purple?
Purple tint is what happens when the dye in cheap film breaks down under UV. Ceramic film doesn't use dye for its color or its performance, so it has nothing in it to turn purple. The STEK films EHCO installs have a neutral charcoal tone.
What does the warranty cover?
STEK films carry the manufacturer's limited lifetime warranty against fading, delamination, bubbling and cracking. Ask about the written terms when you book your install.
