Film or Shades
Film, shades, or both?
Window film and window shades overlap on problems like heat and glare, but they work differently. Plenty of homes end up with both.
What film does
Film is permanent. It bonds to the glass and works all day with nothing to adjust.

What shades do
Shades are adjustable. You decide how much light comes in, hour by hour.

Interior & Exterior

EHCO installs custom shades on both sides of the window. Which side makes sense depends on the window and what you want it to do.
- Interior shades
- Mounted inside the room. Good for glare control, room darkening, privacy, and a clean finished look at the window.
- Exterior shades
- Mounted outside the glass, where they block sun before it ever reaches the window. That's the strongest way to cut heat coming through.
The right setup comes down to the exposure, the room, and the goal. It's much easier to sort out in person, standing at the window.

Common Questions
Window shade questions.
Do I need interior or exterior shades?
It depends on the problem you're solving. Glare, room darkening, and the look of the room are interior jobs. If heat is the main issue, exterior shades work best because they block sun before it reaches the glass. Some windows call for one, a few call for both. We'll look at yours on-site and tell you which.
Do shades replace window tint?
No, they do different jobs. Film is permanent, works on heat and UV all day, and keeps your view. Shades adjust and can take a room fully dark. On a lot of projects they end up paired: film on the glass doing the everyday work, and shades covering evenings, naps, and hard afternoon sun.
What about motorized shades, or a specific brand?
Options depend on the project. Tell us what you have in mind when you call, and we'll go over what fits your windows and your budget at the appointment.
